The flag flown over the United States Capitol in 2008 in honor of trhe 200th birthday of Alexander W Doniphan was raised over Far West, Missouri Temple Site 23 Oct 2021.

 E. Janell McBride Jenkins is a direct descendant of –

  • Thomas White McBride Sr., Hawn’s Mill magistrate, buried at Hawn’s Mill
  • Catherine John McBride, wife of Thomas McBride
  • James John McBride, son of Thomas McBride, wrote an autobiography
  • Dorcas Louisa McBride, daughter of Thomas and Catherine John McBride
  • Harrison Herman Severe, Hawn’s Mill area ‘Gentile’ invited to join the mob but refused.  He left Missouri with the McBride family, and later married Dorcas McBride, and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Armstead Moffett, son of Bethsina McGeath Pierce, of Far West
  • Bethsina McGeath Pierce, buried at Far West

Janell’s complicated family history is intertwined with early history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had family history questions and received answers about the attack on Hawn’s Mill. Her Hawn’s Mill reference files helped her to understand the people and what happened there. She has reconnected with her Iowa and Missouri collateral cousins - expanding her family tree.
